Narrowing down CV’s for job vacancy

Following the recession, the UK saw a record number of people out of work and desperately searching for employment. Although we are now recovering from the recession, the number of people unemployed is still largely high and therefore when a job is advertised, employers often receive a great quantity of CV’s.

Each employer will have a different method for narrowing down CV’s. Some are very ruthless and if there is a spelling or grammar mistake in the CV will immediately dismiss it, but by doing this you may miss out on a candidate that was actually idea for the job.

I would recommend having three piles, yes, no and maybe and then scan reading each CV. Split them up in to the piles and put aside the “No” ones. You can then start to read in more detail the “yes” and “Maybe” pile of CV’s to see which ones you would like to invite to an interview.

If you really don’t have the time to read through all the CV’s then it may be worth using a recruitment agency who will filter the CV’s for you.
