First always read through the whole of the application form and ensure that you understand what’s required and how much space you have been provided for each answer.
Then check any specific instructions on the front of the form or in the covering letter, for example ‘Please write in black ink/block capitals’.
Draft out your answers before you complete the form and check prior to completion whether the form can be typed out or whether it needs to be hand written.
Take a photocopy of the form before you complete anything just in case you make any errors, as crossing out or tippex tends to look messy and give a negative impression of your attention to detail.
Once you have produced your draft form have someone else read it through to check for any spelling or grammatical errors.
Keep your answers short and informative and always keep in mind exactly what is being asked of you.
Once you have completed the form attach a short cover letter and send back in to the employer ASAP not leaving it until the application closing date.
